WELCOME TO THE 2010 FESTIVAL OF RACES!
Following are some notes and reminders to make your experience with the Meijer Festival of Races presented by Cherry Bay Orchards, as great as can be!
NEW - AWARDS PARTY AT FESTIVAL BEER TENT!
Overall and Age Group Awards will be announced at 10:45 AT THE BEER TENT at the Festival Open Space! Run the Race, Take a swim, have a cool beverage!
ELITE MILE IS BACK!
After the race, exit the chute and go back to parade route and watch elite milers (sub 4:10 men, sub 4:50 women) race around the block in downtown TC!
FRONT STREET FINISH LINE!
For your convenience, the 2010 course finishes on a flat, strait-away at the historical corner of Front St. and Union St.
START/FINISH NOTES:
• 5K Race Time: 7:45 a.m. face to run WEST! (toward town)
• 15K Race Time: 8:10 a.m. face to run EAST!(toward peninsula)
• Listen to announcements leading up to the race, we will help corral runners by predicted pace per mile
• Start line is just south of the Traverse City Central High School track south of Eastern Elementary
• Port-potties are located just north of Eastern Elementary along the west side of the Cherry Parking Lot on the NMC campus
• Water is provided in the Cedar Parking Lot near the 15K and 5K start line
• For the safety and enjoyment of all, walkers must line up behind runners. The computer will still give you an actual time despite waiting behind the runners. Start line monitors and the announcer will remind participants during pre-race announcements
• Walker results are included within the runner results – RUNNER age group awards ONLY
• Review shoe tag instructions for lacing. This will ensure accurate results
• Roads are not closed, be mindful of auto traffic
• Finish Line includes water, bagels, bananas, cookies, yogurt and pepsi products
• Limited shuttle rides back to the START depart from the West End of the finish chute at Pine/State St. and Front St. grassy corner. Look for a TCAPS school bus starting at 9:00 and running at ½ hour trips through 11:00 a.m.
RACE SHIRTS
Like most races, quantity shirt orders are placed well in advance. Online registrants in before July 8 will be prioritized if registrations exceed shirt order. There will be NO shirt credit for late registrants, no additional shirt order is planned.
AID STATIONS UPDATE
• The 5K includes an official WATER station at 1.4 miles, and along the parade route at 2.8 miles
• The 15K includes official WATER stations at the 3.7, 4.8 mile, 5.7 mile – Many residents will also provide water!
COURSE MARKING
Both the mile marks and directional arrows on the road are marked in white “FOR”. Mile marks are written on the center line. Signage is also placed at the road side of the mile marks. Directional signage is placed to indicate key turns.
FAQ’s
Where is start line?
South of Eastern Elementary (Registration) at S. end of high school’s red track.
Can I switch to a different race?
Yes! But it must be done before the start at registration “Change” table in gym.
How do I get back to my car?
A school bus shuttle starts at 9:00 from the finish line back to Eastern, but most people walk back via Front St. It’s 1.6 miles, and makes for a nice, scenic cool down.
How do I get a different size t-shirt?
Look for the “Barter” table inside the registration area at Eastern.
Where is walk-up registration?
Inside Eastern Elementary gym, look for “Walk Up” registration tables.
How do I find my number?
Inside Eastern Elementary hallway, find last name alpha “letter” area
Is there water on the course?
Yes, the 5K at mile 1.5, the 15K at miles 3.7 or 4.8, or 5.7.
Where is the finish line?
On parade route at corner of Front and Union.
Can we use strollers?
Strollers are not recommended but should line up behind all other corrals.
How do I get my gear to the finish?
A gear transfer program is not available. Please plan accordingly.
